What is God Like
A look at some key scriptures to better understand the character of God (holy, just, merciful, loving, faithful, wise, good) as we seek to follow Christ in obedience and love.
Series verse: Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity and passes over (our) rebellious acts? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in unchanging love. (Micah 7:18)
Good God
Ps 100; Jn 10; Ro 12 — We respond to the goodness of God the Good Shepherd by following, serving, and worshiping with grateful hearts.
Wise God
1 Cor 1 — We grow in wisdom through Word and worship!
Faithful God
1 Corinthians 1:4-9 — God is faithful, seen and experienced most explicitly and fully in Christ.
A Loving God
Romans 5:1-8 — God’s lovingkindness is sacrificial, unconditional, and strong; we are called to love as God has loved us.
The Mercy of God
Ps 136; Ex 34; Lk 10 — We are to show mercy as God is merciful.
A Just God
Deuteronomy 32:3-4 — We are to be just as God is just!
Holy God
Isaiah 6:1-7 — In God’s holy presence we are convicted of sin, drawn to confession, and recipients of God’s cleansing mercy in Christ.
