What comes before repentance? Or what helps us to repent? We are going to look at some texts before we get to Lent and the season of repentance. All of this is not to grind us down, but to open us up to God’s work in our lives.
John 9:1-7, Job 4:1-9 — God created humanity for dignity, that God’s glory might be displayed through them.
2 Peter 3.3-9 — God does not wish for any to perish, but all to come to repentance; we are part of His work.
2 Timothy 2.14-26 — Godly ‘winning’ is wanting God’s best for the other, even an opponent.
2 Corinthians 7.8-11 — God’s Word and Spirit, given to us in love, convicts and calls us to repentance and leads to life.
Luke 24:44-49 — God has planned and prepared our salvation since the foundation of the world.
Matthew 3:1-17 — Jesus baptism re-frames the meaning and our experience of repentance, resulting in the forgiveness of sin for all who trust him.
Isaiah 61; 1 Peter 2 — Salvation is God’s rescue from darkness to light for God’s glory; we continue to grow into this purpose.
